What is peat?
Peat which is also commonly known as turf is effectively decayed plant vegetation that has built up over many years. Our peat is all sourced from Ireland and is from an area where there are open marsh lands that produce some of the best peat in the UK. From a more scientific view point, burning peat is a low sulphur alternative to burning logs or coal and provides a superb heat output and a long lasting burn. Unlike wood that generally burns with a long orange flame our Irish peat briquettes burn with a short flame.
What are Irish Peat Briquettes?
The beauty of our Irish peat briquettes is that they are a 100% natural product that has not had anything added to it to make it burn brighter or for longer. The briquettes are simply a mixture of milled and then dried bog peat taken from a low level in the ground. From there the only additional step in the process is to compress them into briquette shapes usable for your home stove or fire.
The briquettes naturally hold around ten percent moisture and will give you a nice hot but slow burn providing a calorific value of around 4.5kWh/Kg. Additionally, they are easy to light making them the fuel of choice for many of our customers.
Due to the way our briquettes are compressed they are easy to stack. This makes them easy to store because unlike coal or logs they can be stacked easily due to their uniform shape.
Burn with other types of fuels
